Clarendon is a special school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, many of whom have additional complex needs (including Autism). There are places for around 140 young people (50 Primary and 90 Secondary), usually in classes around 12. Our school moved into new premises in 2018, with the new Secondary Centre (co-located with a mainstream secondary school and another special school) in central Twickenham. The school was again rated Outstanding by Ofsted in January 2019.
Clarendon School is part of The Auriga Academy Trust, a small local specialist academy chain. The Trust and its three constituent special schools work in a close and supportive partnership, with each school maintaining its unique identity and ethos. All Trust schools are in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, South West London which has excellent public transport links. We are looking to appoint a motivated, organised and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our caring and friendly team working with pupils aged 4 to 11 in our Primary Centre in Hampton. The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong and positive relationships with staff and pupils. They will support pupils to enhance learning and encourage them to become independent learners as well as providing educational, welfare and therapeutic support for pupils with a range of learning needs.
We are looking for staff with good communication skills, ability to work on their own initiative and previous experience of working with pupils with learning needs.

Volunteering
All of our schools and the trust welcome applications from anyone wishes volunteer.

To ensure the trust adheres to Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022, all those aged 16 and above volunteering in regulated activity will be subject to an enhanced (with barring) DBS check. No volunteering will be available for those under 16 years old unless at one of the co-linked schools.
We will be offering two types of placements this academic year, either a weekly placement or a block work placement. The weekly placement will be a minimum commitment of 1.5 hours per week, this will be tailored to your availability and ideal for a college/ 6th form/ university student. The other placement will be a block of either one or two weeks, this is best suited for work experience. All will be offered at first come, first served basis. In certain circumstances we may offer an extension for a volunteer to stay longer with us. This will only be offered once discussed and confirmed by senior leaders and HR.
Students requiring work placements as part of their degree or placement will be offered them by the heads of school if there is suitable availability and their university has completed the necessary safeguarding checks.

Weekly placement: Application window opens on: 3rd October 2022 and will close on 1st May 2023.
Work experience placement – 1/2 weeks available to those wishing to undertake a work placement. Please apply at least three weeks prior to the intended placement to allow plenty of time.
